New Terminator: Genisys TV Spots Reveal More Twists

If you caught the last twist-revealing trailer for Terminator: Genisys, then it's likely that you're aware of the movie's unique conceit. The savior of humanity, leader of the resistance and all-around champion of mankind, John Connor is no longer on our side. As the franchise 'reset' takes liberties with every aspect of the series beloved by fans, Genisys has strung up its guiding light as the harbinger of doom. There's no denying the fact that as daring, unexpected moves go, it's ballsy. But did we really need to know so much about what's an arguably intriguing plot point?

Paramount’s decision to clue us in to what could have been a GOTCHA! moment in theaters wasn’t a mistake, and that particular narrative quirk continues to drive this new batch of international TV spots. The focus of which hones in on the movie’s new take on Terminator lore.

In a new skewed timeline, when Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) is sent back in time to protect John Connor’s mother Sarah (Emilia Clarke), he arrives in 1984 to a Judgment Day-savvy version of the feisty character. From there, the mythology of the previous movies is essentially pushed aside for an updated take on the classic sci-fi story, which you can reacquaint yourself with in the four spots below. Also, keep your eyes peeled for a few new tidbits of intel; Genisys – yeah, the name everyone loves – is apparently the name of an app, which presumably caused the end of the world.

The first in a brand new trilogy of time-traveling sci-fi retcons, Terminator: Genisys lands on July 1. The question is – will there be any footage left unseen when that date rolls around?
