Yellow Claw Go Deep With Run Away

The first song off of Yellow Claw's upcoming debut album, Blood For Mercy, has been receiving mixed reviews from the trap trio's fanbase, as it features low-pitch vocals and a four-four beat resembling something we'd hear in deep house, which makes for a substantial departure from the group's trademark sound.

While it’s not a poor effort by any means, the only remotely trap-y part of “Run Away” is the second bridge, when a syncopated beat punctuated by rattling 808s leads to the second peak. It’s certainly different from what we’re used to hearing from the group, but departures aren’t always necessarily a bad thing and in this case, I think it marks a refreshing change of pace for the boys, even if their fans aren’t totally on board with it just yet.
