Is Tiësto’s Your Shot USA A Surefire Hit?

Tiësto has announced Your Shot USA, an elimination-based reality game show in which 30 contestants train and compete for a chance to perform alongside the producer/DJ in Las Vegas and at Ultra Music Festival 2016. The original Your Shot program premiered on Australian television in 2010, and has famously included DJs as well as enthusiastic fans with little or no experience alike.

When word broke that Simon Cowell would attempt the same thing with Ultimate DJ, a program in the vein of American Idol geared towards the electronic music scene, everyone from Insomniac to Fatboy Slim came down on the concept. While Tiësto certainly commands more respect within the dance music community than Cowell does, his reputation as a sellout in light of his shift away from trance in recent years could have an adverse effect on perceptions of the show.
