It took four seasons, but Emily Thorne finally got her Revenge, and now ABC has opted not to renew the once-popular series for an additional season.

Viewers of the drama, which stars Emily VanCamp and Madeleine Stowe, likely expected the news, given how much the most recent season finale felt like a series ender. Stowe’s character, Victoria Grayson, who had served as the main antagonist from the very first episode, was killed off earlier this season.

Additionally, Josh Bowman, who had been with the show since its premiere back in 2011, saw his character die dramatically, leaving just VanCamp, Nick Wechsler and Gabriel Mann as the original cast members left standing. Revenge has racked up quite a body count during its run, with regulars Henry Czerny, Connor Paolo and Barry Sloane all meeting with sticky ends at various points.

Showrunner Sunil Nayar spoke to Entertainment Weekly, confirming the cancellation:

“We can officially tell our fans that this will be the end of the story,” he said. “We’ve been talking to the network, and we all just wanted to make sure that we felt very confident. Now that everybody has seen the finale — which is fabulous — everybody understands that as much as we all adore the show, it has hit exactly the mark it needed to to end.”

That’s not to say that everything will be wrapped up in a nice, tidy bow for all the characters. Nayar teased a cliffhanger in the finale, which may or may not serve as a link to a potential spinoff called Kingmakers, which has a pilot but has yet to be ordered to series. Revenge producer Sallie Patrick is currently involved with that project, which follows a young man investigating a secret society at a prestigious university where his sister died under mysterious circumstances.
