Sony Renews PlayStation’s Superhero Show Powers For Season 2

Sony's superhero drama Powers may not have lit up the PlayStation Network in a way the company would have hoped - perhaps stifled by the success of Marvel's Daredevil - but that doesn't mean the Japanese giant isn't prepared to have another crack of the whip. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Sony will bring the series back in 2016 for season 2.

Sony’s superhero drama Powers may not have lit up the PlayStation Network in a way the company would have hoped – perhaps stifled by the success of Marvel’s Daredevil – but that doesn’t mean the Japanese giant isn’t prepared to have another crack of the whip. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Sony will bring the series back in 2016 for season 2.

Following the ten-episode stint, the company will be looking to assemble the creative team back for another turn in the Powers Department, and here’s what Sony’s top brass had to say on the renewal.

“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, vp platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of ‘Powers.’”

“There is a lot to look forward to in season two for both new and existing fans of the series, as we broaden the ‘Powers’ universe and bring even more of the fan-favorite characters and storylines to life,” said Jamie Erlicht.

Lifted from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s eponymous comic book series, the entire first season of Powers is available to watch on PlayStation Network, and those who hold a PlayStation Plus subscription can stream the superhero show free of charge. In it, District 9 star Sharlto Copley plays the weathered Detective Christian Walker opposite Susan Heyward’ as Detective Deena Pilgrim. The cast is rounded out by Max Fowler, Adam Godley, Noah Taylor, Olesya Rulin and Eddie Izzard.

Powers will return for season 2 on PlayStation Network in 2016. Tell us, are you happy or surprised – or both! – about today’s renewal?
