Rest easy, Clone Club – Orphan Black isn’t going anywhere. BBC America’s watercooler hit has been renewed for a fourth season, the network announced today.
Orphan Black, created by screenwriter Graeme Manson and director John Fawcett, centers on a woman who discovers she is one of many clones created as part of Project Leda, an operation by a dangerous institute that’s willing to kill in order to protect its secrets. During the currently airing third season, things have gotten a lot more complicated for the clones with the introduction of a male cloning initiative called Project Castor. Ari Millen plays the clones created during that project, following in Maslany’s footsteps by taking on multiple characters with distinct personalities and diverging motives.
Maslany was among the notable snubs at the Critics’ Choice TV Award nominations this year (she’s won two years in a row), but the actress is increasingly receiving more attention for her stunning performance. She was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award this year, and many are predicting this will be her year to score an Emmy nod.
Orphan Black has a rabid cult following, but its third season premiere was heavily promoted by BBC America and general audiences are fast catching on. With its newly announced fourth season, Clone Club is sure to grow exponentially in the coming year.
