Sunburn Festival’s Aftermovie Might Leave A Mark

Dance music's illustrious story has largely been told from two sides of a pond, but we often forget that it's grown by leaps and bounds on the other side of the world as well. Sunburn Festival, which is widely regarded as the largest EDM festival in Asia, just followed up its 2014 edition with an official aftermovie that proves just how hard India goes.

Dance music’s illustrious story has largely been told from two sides of a pond, but we often forget that it’s grown by leaps and bounds on the other side of the world as well. Sunburn Festival, which is widely regarded as the largest EDM festival in Asia, just followed up its 2014 edition with an official aftermovie that proves just how hard India goes.

Sunburn takes place in Goa, India, a city almost as intertwined with the history of trance music as any in the UK or Netherlands. The festival itself just completed its 8th annual installment at the turn of the year, and if the aftermovie is any indication, the event certainly holds its own in the global arena. Appearances by the likes of Krewella, Sasha and Emma Hewitt paint a picture of the same monumental energy captured in staple festivals like Electric Daisy Carnival or Tomorrowland, and an all-star soundtrack is the finishing touch.

Many of dance music’s biggest minds are paying a lot of attention to India as of late; the region shows promise as perhaps the biggest potential growth market in EDM’s global takeover. India’s population between 15-24 stands at a staggering 225 million, but the country’s total dance music festival capacity in 2014 was only 300,000 (for comparison, the US figures are roughly 45 million and 1.4 million, respectively).
