Despite an erroneous post to the contrary, Zenimax Studios has confirmed that it has no plans to prevent players from trading in their PS4 or Xbox One copy of The Elder Scrolls Online, nor will console owners looking to the buy the game require a “unique registration code” before venturing into Tamriel.

Fans of the overhauled MMO took umbrage with a post over on TESO‘s online forums, which appeared to confirm the existence of an activation code and, subsequently, a hidden limitation that would limit any preowned copies of the title. Thankfully, this has proven to be an incorrect posting, and the studio released a statement earlier today confirming that physical copies of the game won’t come tethered with a code.

The physical console version of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited does not require a one-time game code. As with any other boxed PS4 / Xbox One game only the game disc is needed for verification.

If the Xbox One launch taught us anything, it’s that DRM policies are never popular with the consumer unless they’re executed close to perfection in the vein of Steam.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users can look forward to The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited when the MMO migrates to consoles on June 9.
