Matthew McConaughey Admits He’s Read DC And Marvel Scripts, Interstellar Star “Open” To Joining Superhero Film

Gone are the days when high-profile actors and the movie community in general would look down on superhero movies as mere cash-ins, existing as an easy way for companies to ship nine kinds of merchandise and actors to make a quick buck. How times have changed. With Marvel's colossal universe already engulfing some of Hollywood's biggest names and DC following suit with Suicide Squad and the like, it won't be long before it's more difficult to find an actor or actress that hasn't starred in a superhero film, as opposed to one who has.

Gone are the days when high-profile actors and the movie community in general would look down on superhero movies as mere cash-ins, existing as an easy way for companies to ship nine kinds of merchandise and actors to make a quick buck. How times have changed. With Marvel’s colossal universe already engulfing some of Hollywood’s biggest names and DC following suit with Suicide Squad and the like, it won’t be long before it’s more difficult to find an actor or actress that hasn’t starred in a superhero film, as opposed to one who has.

And joining that long list is True Detective and Interstellar star Matthew McConaughey, who has peaked the ears of comic book fans the world over after the Oscar-winning actor revealed that has indeed read scripts from both Marvel and DC, though nothing has jumped out at him hitherto. Speaking to Variety, here’s what McConaughey had to say on the matter.

“I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts and I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I’ll share with with you what they are — or were. Yeah, I’ve circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it.”

Cue the speculation. Given the actor’s credentials following his inspiring career turnaround, one would imagine that McConaughey would hold a substantial amount of control when it comes to picking his own roles. As such, the fact that “nothing has been right” for the star just yet hints that he is perhaps biding his time until a more meaty and appropriate opportunity presents itself. Besides, given that Marvel and DC has mapped out their respective cinematic slates all the way up until 2019, it’s not as though McConaughey is short of options.

But what do you make of this? Do you believe Matthew McConaughey has the X factor to star in a superhero film from either Marvel or DC? Let us know below.
