The title of The Lonely Island’s feature-length comedy has been revealed, and it’s suitably weird. Conner4Real will find the satirical musicians playing members of a broken-up boy band, who reunite when one member’s (Andy Samberg) rap album is an embarrassing, possibly career-killing bomb. Today also brings word that Tim Meadows, another Saturday Night Live alum, has joined the cast.
Meadows, recently seen in canceled NBC comedy Marry Me, will play Harry, the rapper’s irrepressibly optimistic yet heavily overworked manager, who encourages the rapper to get back together with his old bandmates (Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer).
Judd Apatow is producing the pic, which was directed by Taccone and Schaffer (who previously delivered comedies Hot Rod and MacGruber). The film is being envisioned as a skewering of content-light musical documentaries like Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, One Direction: This Is Us and Katy Perry: Part of Me. It’s also sure to feature new music by The Lonely Island, which has brought us such hits as “I’m On a Boat,” “Like A Boss,” “I Just Had Sex,” “D— in a Box,” “J— in My Pants,” and “Lazy Sunday” over the years.
Production is currently underway on the movie in Los Angeles. Apatow sent out the following tweet shortly after Taccone and Schaffer began rolling cameras:

We’ll keep you posted with a release date for Conner4Real. The project is certainly one to watch, given how consistently hilarious The Lonely Island has proven itself to be as a musical trio throughout three albums and multiple stints on SNL. If the script is solid, this pic is going to be one of the funniest films of next year.
