Just when you thought it was safe to venture back into Yharnam, Sony has announced plans to release a Bloodborne expansion, with more information about the post-launch DLC slated for later this year.

News comes via Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, who took to his own personal Twitter account to make the announcement after a string of fan queries relating to the game’s expansion plans.

It’s an announcement that should come as no surprise for long-term fans of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s excruciating titles, particularly when you consider the success of Dark Souls II‘s post-launch expansions, which were arguably just as good – if not better – than the base game itself.

Above all, though, Yoshida’s confirmation is evidence that Sony is looking to bolster Bloodborne‘s status as PlayStation exclusive, possibly spinning out a franchise from the studio’s Victorian-era RPG. Couple this with yesterday’s revelation that the game’s sales took the Japanese publisher by surprise and it’s clear that both Sony and From Software will be looking to strike while the iron is hot.

New Chalice Dungeon challenges? An entirely new area? Bigger and scarier boss fights? Well, the latter is almost a given.

We’ll have much more for you about Bloodborne‘s expansion in due time.
