It’s been an uneven marketing campaign for Jurassic World, to say the least, with an early clip hinting at apparent sexism directed toward Bryce Dallas Howard’s female lead, but with the film’s release on the horizon, here’s some good news for the Universal blockbuster: people are liking what they’re seeing.

The movie premiered in Paris over the weekend and audience reactions were highly positive, with some calling the pic Jurassic Park‘s best sequel yet. It seems that director Colin Trevorrow did a terrific job with the project – though at the same premiere, the helmer confirmed that he won’t be back for a sequel.

“Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie. I would be involved in some way, but not as director,” he told BadTaste.it (via ComingSoon).

It’s great to see that Trevorrow, who broke out with the small and sweet Safety Not Guaranteed, isn’t getting caught up in the Hollywood machine and wants to move on to other things. He’s already lined up sci-fi thriller Intelligent Life and mysterious Book of Henry, and if Jurassic World is as solid as people are saying, he’s sure to have more offers flooding in.

As for the Paris premiere, it’s relieving to hear that people are enjoying the film, which many (myself included) had been dubious about from the get-go. With a sequel already planned and this installment looking like a dinosaur-sized box office hit, the only variable was really whether there would be anything particularly interesting about the flick.

You can check out some reaction Tweets from the premiere below.

Finally, a new featurette for the film was released today and it can be viewed above. Though brief, it gives us a look behind the scenes as we watch Trevorrow and his cast bring this “new vision” for the franchise to fruition. It’s likely our last look at the film before it hits theatres, so give it a watch and let us know what you think.

Jurassic World opens on June 12.
