It’s a pretty odd lineup when you think about the movie mascots of this summer season. We’ve a pint-sized Avenger, rampaging dinosaurs and yellow minions all dominating screens in the next few months – but the most endearing one of all may turn out to be a potty-mouthing, pot-smoking teddy bear. That’s right – Ted 2 is just a few weeks away, and Universal isn’t about to let you forget it with the latest red-band trailer for the R-rated comedy sequel.
The previews have highlighted some of the film’s funniest scenes (though, notably, Tom Brady isn’t getting nearly as played up as he was before Deflategate), so it’s easy to assume that Universal is giving away the entire movie, but I’m hopeful that writer-director-actor Seth MacFarlane still has some dirty tricks up his sleeve.
Really, when it comes to a movie like Ted 2, the plot is almost beside the point, but this follow-up finds Ted (voiced by MacFarlane) teaming up with human buddy John (Mark Wahlberg) and lawyer Samantha Leslie Jackson (Amanda Seyfried – and don’t worry, they address it) in order to prove that Ted is a human in the eyes of the U.S. justice system so that he can have a child with girlfriend Tammi-Lynn (Jessica Barth). Needless to say, all kinds of drug-fueled shenanigans ensue, with dangerous strains of weed, enemies new and old and the continued power of the Thunder Buddies all factoring into the mix.
Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Warburton, Dennis Haysbert, Sam Jones, Martin Klebba and more co-star in the pic, which hits theaters on June 26.

Seth MacFarlane returns as writer, director and voice star of TED 2, Universal and Media Rights Capital’s follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time. Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow TED writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as Jason Clark and John Jacobs.
