Once Disney bought Lucasfilm and took control of the Star Wars franchise, the studio quickly put plans into motion to release one new film a year, alternating between the proper “Episode” installments and “Anthology” spin-offs.
At the moment, five of those are already greenlit: The Force Awakens, Anthology: Rogue One, Episode VIII, the second Anthology film (focusing on Boba Fett and Han Solo) and Episode IX.  According to a new rumor, however, another trilogy may also be in the works.
Schmoes Know, who recently reported that Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn were circling the Solo/Fett spinoff, have dropped a new, intriguing rumor that states Ewan McGregor may be donning the furrowed brow and Jedi robes of Obi-Wan Kenobi once more for a whole trilogy of films set after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.Â
[zerg]This is not the first time we’ve heard that an Obi-Wan-centric spinoff could be in the works, so this update isn’t at all surprising. Regardless, the source behind the new rumor claims that McGreggor is currently being courted by Disney for a mystery project, and that the studio wants an Obi-Wan trilogy “outside of the Anthology series.”
The source also suggests that the films could shed some light on the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when the venerable Jedi Knight is watching over a young Luke Skywalker. Characters like Owen Lars and even Darth Maul (who was resurrected for The Clone Wars television series, which is considered Star Wars canon) could show up, giving Obi-Wan plenty to do before meeting up with Luke and heading off on an adventure with Han Solo and Chewbacca aboard the Millennium Falcon.
Of course, this is just a rumor for now, but an exciting one nonetheless. McGregor was one of the few bright spots of the derided prequel trilogy and has already expressed his own desire to return to the role. Only time will tell if this comes to fruition, but let us know in the comments section below if this is something you’d like to see.
