Current Gears of War developer Black Tusk has today confirmed plans to undergo a small rebranding, changing its name to The Coalition.
The Vancouver-based studio, who took the reins of the illustrious shooter following Gears of War: Judgement, took inspiration from the Coalition of Ordered Governments from the series itself, and Studio Head Rod Fergusson stated that he wants the new-fangled studio name to become synonymous with GoW in the vein of 343 and Halo.
“In short, The Coalition speaks to who we are as a team, and what it is we’re working on,” Fergusson said in a statement. “A coalition is a team of diverse individuals working together for a common purpose, a concept that we feel describes our studio quite well. Fans will also recognize the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) from Gears of War lore.”
Acting as one of Microsoft’s first-party, the Redmond-based publisher appointed The Coalition at the helm after acquiring the Gears of War rights from Epic Games. There have been rumors that the company is also building a HD remake to be unveiled at E3 alongside what we assume will be Gears of War 4, though Fergusson remained mum on each of these unannounced projects.
We can expect much more from both The Coalition and Gears of War at Microsoft’s E3 conference on June 15.
