In a move that surprised no-one, Bethesda capped off its E3 press conference by unveiling a fresh batch of details for its undisputed crown jewel, Fallout 4, which was officially confirmed for a release on November 10 across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Stepping into the limelight was Game Director Todd Howard, who ran through an expansive gameplay demo for the post-apocalyptic sequel, which will take place across a vast and indeed decimated rendition of Massachusetts. That said, there will be prologue of sorts to the game that will be situated before the bombs go off, with players having free rein to create and hone their character, choose their child’s name and get acquainted with their doting wife in an idyllic version of the 1950s.
Gameplay-wise, the heads-up display is very reminiscent of Fallout 3 as you would expect, and the adorned VATS –Â Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System – will make a return. In addition, the Collector’s Edition of the upcoming sequel will bundle together the famed Pip Boy accessory, which will let users plug in their phone in order to create a second screen experience.
According to Howard, Bethesda will release a dedicated app giving players the opportunity to access stats and the like that will factor into the core game itself. And though second screen experiences get a bad rap, Howard himself stated that “as far as stupid gimmicks go, [this is] the best one I ever f**king saw.”
We’ll see about that.
Lastly, an all-new game will be coming to iOS and Android devices in the form of Fallout Shelter, and it’s available to download right now on the Apple Store. In-app purchases do exist, though Howard noted that the game is fairly balanced and won’t short change players with paywall timers or an Internet connection.
Bethesda Softworks has been working on the much-anticipated sequel for the past four years, and it’s finally almost time for its release, as Fallout 4 will debut across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on November 10, 2015.
