PlayStation Platforms To Receive Call Of Duty: Black Ops III DLC First In Surprising Switcheroo

PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty, according to Sony President Andrew House, who revealed during the company’s ongoing E3 press conference that Call of Duty: Black Ops III will mark a turning point in Activision’s first-person behemoth.

In tandem with the bombastic gameplay reveal, House confirmed what many had already assumed: PlayStation platforms will receive all DLC for Treyarch’s upcoming shooter first for the very first time. Considering that Black Ops III was conspicuously absent from Microsoft’s conference earlier today, Sony’s move to swoop in and lock down the third-party content should come as no surprise. After all, the Japanese platform holder needs a horse to back in the forthcoming race against Halo 5: Guardians.

If House is to be believed, this new-fangled deal stretches beyond Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and it’s understood that PlayStation users can look forward to an exclusive beta for Treyarch’s futuristic shooter later this year. For all intents and purposes, the pendulum for timed-exclusive content has swung in Sony’s favor, and though it may seem like a boost, it’s hard to deduce the consumer benefits in this business partnership.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will arrive across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC come November 6.
