The footage shown today at the company’s E3 conference looked gorgeous, with a heavy emphasis on the vehicular rail shooter format that the first two games in the series relied on.

Notable new features include the ability to transform vehicles into various forms, including a walker mode that is partially inspired by a feature in the cancelled Super Nintendo game Star Fox 2, as well as gyroscope functionality via the Wii U Gamepad for precise aiming and movement.

According to Nintendo, the game will be neither a reboot nor remake and instead, will act as just another entry into the much beloved franchise when it releases this holiday season.
