Unlike recent batches of footage from the highly-anticipated project, this TV spot puts more of a highlight on action than humor. Now that Marvel has (mostly) sold audiences on the goofy concept, it’s time to ramp up the action and prove that this new bite-sized hero will be a worthy addition to the action-packed MCU.

I’m honestly surprised by how much the film seems to be employing Lang’s ability to communicate and team up with ants; it’s a rather cheesy concept that works better on a comic book page than on screen, and I’m curious to see how audiences react to it. On one hand, it’s a cool skill that allows Lang to use strength in numbers and fly. On the other, it runs the risk of alienating those that are only willing to suspend some of their disbelief for the greater superhero good. Though, I suppose that if a talking raccoon and sentient tree were enough to become box office gold last year, anything is possible, and in Marvel we trust.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man will crawl his way into theaters on July 17th, 2015.
