Up until now it’s only been the result of guesswork and unconfirmed comments, but today a Naughty Dog developer has all-but-confirmed that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will act as the “final chapter” in Nathan Drake’s globe-trotting saga.
This comes mere days after the Creative Director issued a pre-E3 teaser via Twitter that appeared to indicate this year’s trade show will mark the final outing of the wise-cracking explorer, and during a recent GameSpot livestream, another member of ND’s creative team essentially confirmed this tidbit to be true.
“[Druckmann and Bruce Straley], our directors, they have a vision [for Uncharted 4],” lead designer Kurt Margenau said during GameSpot’s E3 2015 livestream today. “We are fulfilling that vision and it’s going to be awesome. It’s Nathan Drake’s final chapter, so I think fans are going to be happy.”
Beyond the fact that the upcoming PS4 exclusive is entitled A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog has spoken in the past about the desire to cap off Drake’s story in style with this next, seemingly conclusive chapter. From the stunning gameplay shown thus far, we’ve seen a more weathered Nathan Drake, not to mention that during the very first teaser the protagonist whispered “one last time” to surrogate father and partner-in-tomb-raiding-crime Victor Sullivan.
If Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End proves to be Nathan Drake’s swan song, don’t be too surprised if Sony pushes on with the franchise now that a movie is in development. But enough about story, what about the game’s multiplayer segment? Well, what we do know is that Naughty Dog is officially targeting 60fps in the online component, according to Game Director Bruce Straley.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is still without an official release date, but expect Nathan Drake’s curtain call to debut on PS4 in the early stages of 2016.
