Rocksteady is gearing up to debut the first piece of post-launch story content for Batman: Arkham Knight. Entitled Batgirl: A Matter of Family, the add-on will focus on the story of Barbara Gordon’s crime-fighting alter-ego before the events of the core game. It’ll be available from July 14 for those who own Arkham Knight‘s season pass, before launching for all consumers one week later on July 21.

Set to be priced at £5.79 – price points for other regions are yet to be locked down – the DLC will whisk Batgirl and indeed Arkham Knight fans into an all-new location, replete with multiple missions, side quests and new challenges. Robin will join the fray to enable the game’s novel Dual Play fighting mechanic, while Batgirl herself will have the power to hack into a variety of equipment to progress through Gotham.

“This exciting story add-on features an all-new location with multiple missions, side quests and secrets; a new hacking feature to progress through the world and solve puzzles; and Dual Play functionality with Robin for dynamic take-down manoeuvres,” reads the blurb.

Warner Bros. Montreal has taken point for the threequel’s maiden DLC following their work on 2013’s Arkham Origins, and it’s understood that the remainder of the season pass content is in the works at principal developer Rocksteady.

Batman: Arkham Knight and Warner Bros. in general have come under heavy fire of late due to the sorry state of the game’s PC version. Following a disastrous launch period, the publisher opted to yank the PC release from retail stores in order to iron out the kinks. Last we reported, an anonymous source claimed that WB was aware of the crippling issues months before release, and decided to opt the ship the title regardless because it was deemed good enough.

As for Batgirl: A Matter of Family, fans can look forward to the DLC – which will no doubt be the first of several content packs – to be released for season pass owners on July 14, whereas all Batman: Arkham Knight players can get the add-on from July 21 onwards.
