Go Numb With Martin Garrix’s Can’t Feel My Face Remix

Martin Garrix has made the 2015 festival season all about redefining himself as an artist, and his latest remix accomplishes exactly that. Canadian "PBR&B" singer/songwriter The Weeknd had a hit on his hands with last month's "Can't Feel My Face," and Garrix's spin on the track made for a memorable two minutes of his recent live set.

Martin Garrix has made the 2015 festival season all about redefining himself as an artist, and his latest remix accomplishes exactly that. Canadian “PBR&B” singer/songwriter The Weeknd had a hit on his hands with last month’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” and Garrix’s spin on the track made for a memorable couple of minutes during his recent live set.

Garrix debuted the track at Digital Dreams Festival in Toronto, which itself may have been a strategic move as the city happens to be The Weeknd’s hometown. In the beginning, shimmering plucks accompany The Weeknd’s sped-up vocals, but little else has been changed. At the end of the pitch-shifted chorus a unique future house bass line kicks in that, true to Garrix’s recent work, sounds just unique enough to not strike the listener as just another main stage anthem.

Since March’s debut of Garrix’s collaboration with Tiësto, “The Only Way is Up,” his subtle future/deep house influences have come to define his sound as a maturing superstar. As he continues to tweak it in the years to follow, it will be interesting to see what the music world remembers as his enduring legacy.
