Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Will Be About The Consequences Of Violence

As all eyes begin to focus on San Diego for the much-anticipated Comic-Con, the Warner Bros. marketing machine is gearing up for action, like General Zod’s terra-forming World Engine in Man Of Steel. To help build interest ahead of the event, as if help were needed, Entertainment Weekly featured in-depth coverage of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in its recent issue – containing several interesting hints at what we can expect from the finished film, when it finally arrives.

The magazine included loose descriptions of three scenes, all of which are heavily focused on Batman/Bruce Wayne. The first two give insight into the dynamic the film looks set to depict.

“Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and his loyal butler, Alfred, (Jeremy Irons), are gravely intoning their lines into a burned-out fireplace, as Bruce prepares for his Valley of Elah moment with Superman. The billionaire vigilante appears weary but determined – not unlike the actor portraying him.

“In his editing suite in Pasadena last month, Snyder showed off early passes of the ‘money sequence’ – a rainy rooftop battle between the two capes. There’s an undeniable thrill to watching these pop culture icons go at it – throwing each other through walls and skylights.”

The confrontation between these two superheroes was always going to be fascinating. Superman is essentially god-like on Earth, thanks to the superhuman powers and abilities afforded him by the energy of our yellow sun. Batman, on the other hand, has no super powers. Instead, he is very intelligent, very rich and has lots of gadgets and resources at his disposal.

We know that he will be using Kryptonite as a weapon against Superman in the movie, in retaliation against the alien after the events of Man Of Steel, and this gives an interesting contrast to the morality of Superman. The essence of Superman is the idea that, just because he can easily destroy an opponent, that does not mean he should. As such, the dynamic between the two characters in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice seems to have Superman in self-defence mode, while Batman goes on the attack.
