Whether it’s the genre-defining Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers or The Pacific, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have a long and prestigious history with wartime dramas, and it’s one that’s set to continue with this year’s Oscar hopeful Bridge of Spies, which today unveiled an all-new trailer.
Centering around Hanks as a Brooklyn Lawyer in over his head, Bridge of Spies will follow one James Donovan as he is sent on the near-impossible mission of freeing a captured American U-2 pilot. No small task, particularly when you consider that Spielberg’s gripping drama takes place during the height of the Cold War, a time when tensions between the USA and USSR were on a razor’s edge. Donovan’s plight will see him be shipped into East Germany, a location that proved a hotspot for both US and Soviet intelligence.
Lifted from a script by the Coen Brothers, the film will also star Mark Rylance, Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, and Alan Alda.
