Prior to its barnstorming release earlier this year, CD Projekt Red detailed the expansions making their way into The Witcher III: Wild Hunt – and not the free kind. Though the Polish dev has supported the critically-acclaimed threequel with a steady stream of new content and cosmetics, it is the release of the two major add-ons, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine that really has fans of the series excited.
Boasting close to 30 hours of new story content, the size and scope of the game’s DLC was never in question, though Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has shed some new light on the pair of expansions, which are said to be “almost the size” of The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings – a sprawling RPG in and of itself.
Speaking to GameReactor, here’s what Tomaszkiewicz had to say on the upcoming content for Wild Hunt.
“The expansion packs will be whole new storylines with all the elements you’ve got in the main story (like cutscenes, new characters, new items, new Gwent cards) and many, many more.
“It’s possible that they will be bigger, because it’s always like this (that when we plan some time or hours, it’s twice or something like this), but I’m not promising anything right now,” Tomaszkiewicz said. “And even now, if you sum up this 10 to 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2. And it will be cool; it will be new stories, it will be very emotional stories and I think that people will be happy.”
Hearts of Stone will be the first content pack to launch for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, which is due later this year. Blood and Wine, on the other hand, is being held until 2016. Both expansions can be purchased together for $25 under the RPG’s season pass.
