Rumor has been swirling ever since he was cast in the role that Ben Affleck would not only play the Caped Crusader in the DC Extended Universe, but direct the next solo Batman film, which is expected to hit theaters before 2020. Now, that news has seemingly been made official, if a new report from Deadline is to be believed.

Fresh off the heels of the news that Affleck’s next directorial effort, Live by Night, will go to cameras in the fall, Deadline is stating that his following film will be the Batman solo feature, which has long been rumored to be titled The Batman. And, as if that weren’t enough, Affleck will also co-write the film, along with DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. Johns not only runs DC Entertainment, but has had a hand in writing comics and television shows such as Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl.

According to Deadline’s “studio sources,” Affleck and Johns are “well in synch” and have “more than found their rhythm.” They are expected to turn in a script by the end of the summer, which could mean that the film is gearing up for a 2018 debut as recently reported. That means that Affleck’s movie would take place directly after the events of Justice League: Part One, which arrives in November of 2017.

Of course, all of this news should be taken with a grain of salt for now, as there have been plenty of reports to come out of San Diego Comic-Con in the past that were later debunked by official studio panels. We shouldn’t have to wait long, however, as Warner Brothers is expected to give the DCEU plenty of time during its Hall H presentation this Saturday morning.

Until that happens, leave us your thoughts about this possible news in the comments section. Would you like to see Ben Affleck not only star as, but direct himself as The Batman? Sound off below!
