Warhammer players are no stranger to making tough choices, and now Cyanide Studios is giving them quite the conundrum with how they are handling pre-order bonuses for Blood Bowl 2.
Blood Bowl 2 is a turn-based sports game set in the Warhammer universe, but players will have a challenge that is even greater than dominating the gridiron, deciding which version of the game to pre-order. Each system that Blood Bowl 2 is releasing on (PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One) offers up different bonuses, it’s rather convoluted so we’ll let publisher Focus Home Interactive explain.
“PlayStation 4 players will get an additional race — the Lizardmen — when pre-ordering the game at participating retailers. They come with their own AI, design and players: Skinks, Saurus and Kroxigors. They also host their own Star Players: Slibli and Hemlock!
Xbox One players will get an additional race — the Wood Elves — when pre-ordering the game at participating retailers. They come with their own AI, design and players: Passers, Wardancers, Catchers, Linemen and the violent Treeman. They also bring their own star players: Dolfar Longstride and Jordell Freshbreeze!
PC players pre-ordering Blood Bowl 2 on Steam will be able to pick one of the two races mentioned above and will also be granted access to the Multiplayer Beta a few weeks before release. That’ll be the perfect opportunity to test the different teams and also share feedback with the dev team.”
Both new races, the Lizardmen and Woold Elves, will be playable in all of Blood Bowl 2’s modes. These include the story-driven campaign where players play as the Human race, and the multiplayer mode that will allow players to take on other players.
While spinning the pre-order content as additional content may sound good on paper, what would be even better is if all of the teams that developer Cyanide Studios has made were just included in the game itself. The base game will feature eight playable teams, so holding back two additional teams is a lot of content.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of this news is that Blood Bowl 2 looks like a blast to play, as can be seen below in a new trailer. Let us know in the comments which version you are more likely to pre-order, or if this marketing tactic has made you reconsider buying the game entirely.
