As their Hall H presentation continues, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are unveiling new footage from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and we’ve got details on the sneak peek right here.
Director Zack Snyder and actors Holly Hunter, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck took the stage first, to thunderous applause. In the exclusive footage screened for the film, attendees saw Holly Hunter’s senator commenting on the destruction of Metropolis that made up the finale of Man of Steel. There’s also a shot of Wayne Tower collapsing as Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne looks on.
Hunter’s character is calling for more candor on Superman’s (Henry Cavill) part, saying, “The world needs to know what happened and what he stands for… That kind of power is very dangerous.”
The crowd then went crazy when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was seen fighting, delivering an all-mighty high kick, and when Superman rips the top off Batman’s tricked-out Batmobile. Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) also appears, and he’s apparently one benefactor helping the world recover from the Battle of Metropolis. He’s seen looking at kryptonite.
Other highlights from the footage included a scene of the Bat suit with the words scrawled “You Let Your Family Die” (and later another image of the words “The Joke’s On You Batman”). The presence of the Joker is keenly felt, though he is not seen.
It turns out Wayne was in Metropolis at the time of the battle, and he saw friends die during it. As such, he has determined that Superman should not be unchecked.
Taking to the stage, Snyder explained that Metropolis and Gotham are sister cities in the new universe, which explains why Batman is acutely aware of Superman’s actions. The cast generally expressed its enthusiasm for the film, with Affleck emerging as the most verbose of the bunch.
“The whole idea of wealth and power, and how power engenders fear… made it feel real to me. I’m even more proud to be a part of that,” Deadline quotes the actor as saying.
