Henry Cavill Teases Possibility Of Fifty Shades Darker Role

Perhaps fittingly, Fifty Shades fans always go crazy for a good tease. And the possibility of Henry Cavill taking on a role in the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker has certainly proven enough to get their tongues wagging. With rumors flying around about the Man of Steel himself romancing Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) in the planned sequel to this year's "erotic romance" (I'd disagree with both those labels), ET Online recently took the chance to ask the star about his potential involvement.

Perhaps fittingly, Fifty Shades fans always go crazy for a good tease. And the possibility of Henry Cavill taking on a role in the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker has certainly proven enough to get their tongues wagging. With rumors flying around about the Man of Steel himself romancing Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) in the planned sequel to this year’s “erotic romance” (I’d disagree with both those labels), ET Online recently took the chance to ask the star about his potential involvement.

Instead of shutting down talk that he might take on a role, Cavill chose to feed the rumor mill. “How can I make this interesting?” he said. “I think it’s probably best that I say nothing for now.” Pressed for further comment, he added, “At this time, I’m not allowed to say anything.”

If nothing else, Cavill’s caginess would seem to indicate that Universal has at least expressed a passing interest in his taking on a key role in the sequel. Rumors have suggested Cavill for the part of Jack Hyde, Anastasia’s new boss who takes more than a professional interest in her, leading to a clash with the domineering Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).

Hyde, a villain in E.L. James’ Fifty Shades book trilogy is “described as a man with sensual blue eyes that can pierce your heart,” and Cavill has been repeatedly mentioned as a fan favorite for the role. And though his schedule is pretty filled up playing Superman in the WB/DC Comics cinematic universe, the actor’s response to ET Online’s questioning suggests he’s perfectly aware of that.

Johnson and Dornan are both (begrudgingly) contracted to reprise their lead roles in Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, though they’re not bound for any potential spinoffs. James is expected to exercise complete creative control over the follow-ups, and her husband has been brought in to help pen a script, which should only make it harder for Universal to find a director willing to submit to the pair’s every whim (Sam Taylor-Johnson has made it clear she will definitely not be working with James again).

Nevertheless, Fifty Shades Darker will be released on February 10, 2017.
