For a horror game based around demented animatronic bears jumping out at you, it’s apt that Scott Cawthon has decided to launch Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 – the fourth and final installment in the cult series – onto Steam early.

Available today according to the game’s official listing, the ultimate chapter is available to buy on Valve’s digital storefront for $8, and Cawthon touched base with his decision to bring Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 forward yet again.

“Ok, so as many of you already know, I’m bad with release dates. The game is finished,” Cawthon wrote in a Steam Community post accompanying the launch.

Initially slated for a release in and around Halloween, the developer opted to reschedule the sequel’s release date for early August, though today’s launch comes completely out of left-field.

For the final chapter, players will find that they are no longer confined within the walls of Freddy’s Fazbear Pizzeria; instead, the follow-up will place you in control of a young child, as the invading animatronics take up residence in your own home. With a temperamental flashlight in one hand, you goal is to survive until 6:00am. Sounds simple, right?

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 has blinded the Steam community by releasing earlier than anyone expected. But will you be picking up the final installment in Cawthon’s cult series? Let us know below.
