According to The Wrap, Chris Pine has officially signed on for Warner Bros. Wonder Woman film in the role of Steve Trevor, the love interest of Gal Gadot’s titular hero. The actor has long been rumored for the part, and now it’s been made official, as he’ll be joining the DC Cinematic Universe in a “multi-picture” deal that has him locked in for future sequels.

Further details on the role and how important Trevor will be to the story are still under wraps, but one can only assume that if an actor of Pine’s caliber is signing on, it’s probably a pretty juicy part. In fact, The Wrap’s report states that he’ll have a lot to do and won’t just be a simple love interest, which is nice to hear.

For those unfamiliar with Trevor, he’s an army officer who “crash-lands on Paradise Island, home turf of the Amazons, during World War II. Wonder Woman nurses him back to health and eventually falls in love with him. When he returns to the outside world, she follows him.” We don’t know yet how closely the film will stick to the comic book version of the character, but we imagine they won’t stray too far.

One final thing to note is that this casting news now puts the Star Trek actor out of the running for Green Lantern Corps, obviously. No word yet on who the studio is eyeing for that one, but with Pine not an option anymore, I’d expect to hear about Warner Bros.’ second choice shortly.

Patty Jenkins will be directing Wonder Woman from a script by Pan scribe Jason Fuchs. The film will arrive on June 23rd, 2017 and as of now, only Gadot and Pine have been cast. As always though, we’ll keep you posted once we hear more.
