Stepping into the shoes of the titular one-man army is Homeland star Rupert Friend, who is on a mission to sabotage the cloning process that brought him into this world as an emotionless sharpshooter. As a result, Friend’s Agent 47 will have his proverbial crosshairs trained on Thomas Kretschmann’s Le Clerq, the chairman of a twisted organisation known as Syndicate International. In order to do so, our protagonist must track down his daughter, Katia van Dees (Hannah Ware).

Making his feature-film debut is Aleksander Bach, who will oversee the high-octane actioner for Fox. With a cast list that encompasses Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, Thomas Kretschmann, Dan Bakkedahl and Ciaran Hinds, Hitman: Agent 47 need not be overlooked for its video game origins. And though it’s only been eight years since the release of  Xavier Gens’ underwhelming Hitman adaptation, we’re hopeful that Bach’s first outing at the helm can deliver a video game interpretation worth writing home about.

Sharp-suited and rebooted, Rupert Friend will pick up the iconic handguns when Hitman: Agent 47 lands in theaters on August 21.

Hitman: Agent 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research – and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.
