UPDATE: Deadline has updated their story with the identity of the character, and it’s none other than Belladonna/Bella Boudreaux, leader of the Thieves Guild!

ORIGINAL STORY: It looks like Fox is gearing up to cast a female lead for their Gambit movie, which stars Channing Tatum as the titular card-flinging mutant. According to Deadline, three lovely ladies are on the studio’s radar to star in the Rupert Wyatt directed X-Men spinoff: Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Lea Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Color, Spectre), and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road).

Apparently, all three will soon test for the role, but the question is, what character are they reading for? In the comics, Gambit has been romantically involved with Rogue, and the two shared many adventures – but one would assume that since this movie exists in the established X-Men universe, that part would go to Anna Paquin. Of course, there’s always the possibility she didn’t fancy reprising the role, right?

Whatever the real identity of this gal is, it’s a safe bet that Ferguson, Seydoux and Lee are up for the role, which is described as follows in the leaked character description:

Vera– Female, any ethnicity, mid 20s – early 30s. Beautiful, smart, tough, fiery and unpredictable.

Gambit hits theaters on October 7, 2016.
