Phil Lord And Chris Miller Will Produce, Not Direct, 23 Jump Street

Now that Phil Lord and Chris Miller have helped set up a bona fide franchise at Warner Bros. following the surprisingly excellent The LEGO Movie, both talents will change gears and produce the numerous sequels and spinoffs. Now that Phil Lord and Chris Miller have helped set up a bona fide franchise at Warner Bros. following the surprisingly excellent The LEGO Movie, both talents will change gears and produce the numerous sequels and spinoffs. It was a decision that stemmed from the pair’s commitment to the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film, and it looks as though their busy schedule will also affect their involvement in the Jump Street universe.

In an interview with /Film during the Television Critics Association press tour, Chris Miller confirmed that both he and Lord will only produce 23 Jump Street after directing its two predecessors.

“We are hard at work on 23 Jump Street, which I think we will probably just produce from a time standpoint,” Miller said. “But we’ve been working really hard. We’ve got a really good first draft of a script in and we’re really excited about it.”

With Rodney Rothman attached to scribe the comedy threequel, it’s expected that both Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will reprise their roles as the loveable half-wits, and both will likely produce 23 Jump Street once the ball gets moving, too. Should Sony tap into the franchise’s canon, we could be seeing Jenko and Schmidt – the two sons of bitches that they are – tasked with an assignment in medical school.

As for those hilarious spoof sequels during the credits of 22 Jump Street – from culinary school to veterinary school, the montage ran the gamut – Lord revealed that the series’ creative team plan to incorporate the pseudo follow-ups as canon, indicating that Tatum and Hill could don the scrubs after all.

“We’ve found a way that we love that makes those imagined sequels canonical and yet does something that we haven’t told you about yet. The sequels are canon.”

No word yet on a release date for 23 Jump Street, though with the small possibility of the crossover with Men in Black also on the cards, Sony evidently has big plans for its comedic blockbuster.
