Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Has Received A Cel-Shaded Makeover

With just shy of two months to go before it's released, Robomodo has given Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 a visual makeover. The result -- which was surely an attempt to combat all of the complaints that had been levied against the game's "dated" and "ugly" graphics -- is a cel-shaded skateboarding title that looks better than it did but still isn't amazing-looking by any stretch of the imagination.

With just shy of two months to go before it’s released, Robomodo has given Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 a visual makeover. The result — which was surely an attempt to combat all of the complaints that had been levied against the game’s “dated” and “ugly” graphics — is a cel-shaded skateboarding title that looks better than it did but still isn’t amazing-looking by any stretch of the imagination.

Then again, graphics aren’t everything, and the most important part of any skateboarding game is how it plays. Going further, perhaps we were spoiled by the Skate series — which looked great and would certainly be an impressive looker on current-gen tech — as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has never been about visuals. The games have always focused on fun over everything else, and based on my time with it at E3, this new take on the iconic formula is very much in line with that trend.

Say what you will about its visuals, but THPS 5 is shaping up to be a fun return to the days of the series’ classic gameplay. It also looks half-decent with cel-shaded visuals, outside of some occasionally dodgy character models.

While we wait for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 to release on September 29th, take a moment to let us know your thoughts. We’re curious as to whether you’re excited for the game, as well as your opinion of its visual overhaul.
