Bill Murray To Appear In Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters Reboot After All

Depending on the day, Bill Murray was either one of the loudest champions of Paul Feig's all-female reboot or, on the other hand, decidedly against another installment in the Ghostbusters series. As a third installment continually flirted with development, the actor categorically denied interest in reprising his role as Peter Venkman for another adventure in wrangling phantoms, though seemingly that hasn't scuppered chances of him appearing in Paul Feig's much-anticipated reboot.

Depending on the day, Bill Murray was either one of the loudest champions of Paul Feig’s all-female reboot or, on the other hand, decidedly against another installment in the Ghostbusters series. As a third outing continually flirted with development, the actor categorically denied interest in reprising his role as Peter Venkman for another adventure in wrangling phantoms, though seemingly that hasn’t scuppered chances of him appearing in Paul Feig’s much-anticipated reboot.

That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, after the outlet brought word that Murray will indeed appear in Sony’s high-profile retelling. No word yet on how big that role will prove to be, but we assume that it’ll turn out as some form of cameo along with fellow OG buster, Dan Aykroyd. This is interesting in and of itself considering that Feig has described his version of Ghostbusters as a total reboot, one that will act as a hard reset of the lore that doesn’t acknowledge the original ’80s flicks. But with Aykroyd and now Murray attached to reprise their respective parts, it seems Feig’s rendition won’t be without nostalgic references.

With Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon picking up the torches (and proton packs) for Sony’s brand new take, Feig’s Ghostbusters could spawn a new franchise for the studio, after reports revealed that the all-male reboot is still on the table. According to the most recent tidbit, both Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum are still invested in the project.

As for Feig’s 2016 release, here’s the early lowdown of the supernatural plot.

Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.

Paul Feig will bring the Ghostbusters back to the big screen like you’ve never seen them before on July 15, 2016.
