Entertainment Weekly has given in to the Dark Side with its brand new issue, featuring the villainous Kylo Ren as the cover star ahead of the outlet’s coverage of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Brandishing the crossguard lightsaber that almost brought the Internet to a standstill last year, the image is undoubtedly our best look at Adam Driver’s villainous big bad to date, giving us a detailed look at the stylish yet menacing mask and his atypical weapon of choice.

Of course, there’s still plenty yet to be revealed about Ren, including his relationship – or lack thereof – with Darth Vader and how far his connections with the Force stretch back. Due to hit news stands on August 21, Entertainment Weekly’s coverage will likely produce an array of new images, and as far as teasers are concerned, this one of Kylo Ren is very impressive indeed.

Earlier this week, a new international TV spot surfaced that included a small amount of new footage – one establishing shot, essentially – though Star Wars: The Force Awakens fans looking to this weekend’s D23 convention for a new trailer may be disappointed. There will, however, be a new sizzle reel making its way online in the fall. I mean, it’s not as if we’re counting down the days or anything.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will kickstart a new era in everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far away when J.J. Abrams’ sequel blasts into theaters on December 18. Entertainment Weekly’s new issue will hit news stands on August 21, before sending the Internet into a tailspin as the coverage begins to seep online.
