Super Mario Maker will encourage level designers to revisit the in-game editor by unlocking new items and features on a daily basis. A library of various sound effects will also be available to incorporate into custom levels, along with the ability to record more sounds and voice clips using the Wii U GamePad’s microphone.

Similar to titles such as LittleBigPlanet, custom levels can be uploaded for anyone online to download, play, and rate, though the game will require you to legitimately reach the end of a level before publishing is allowed. Besides individually selecting levels, the new 100 Mario Mode will present a gauntlet of several pre-selected levels to play through with 100 lives that can be used up.

Super Mario Maker will also make use of Nintendo’s Amiibo line of figures, with the ability to tap a figure to the GamePad and unlock the ability to transform Mario into that particular character. Unfortunately, between the four titles that can be chosen for a level’s visual style (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U), only Super Mario Bros.-styled levels can make use of Amiibos, but it still looks like a fun bonus feature.

We will continue to keep you updated on Super Mario Maker as more news drops, so stay tuned!
