In 2013, Prisoners irrefutably proved that director Denis Villeneuve could handle a character-driven drama toplined by A-listers like Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Imagine our excitement, then, when we first caught wind of the filmmaker’s new project: the Mexican narcotics thriller Sicario.

And today, we have the latest trailer for the thriller, which sees Emily Blunt’s FBI agent, Kate, drafted in to assist in the war against drugs. Such a commitment will have her unite with Josh Brolin’s no-nonsense task force official, as the pair make tracks for the Mexican border to foil a sizeable drugs trade.

For a generic action drama, there’s certainly a lot to be excited about, and that in large part comes down to Villeneuve reteaming with esteemed cinematographer Roger Deakins. The pair crafted a moody, intense thriller with Prisoners – one that gnawed at your mind long after the credits rolled. For Sicario, there’s already evidence of Deakins’ deft touch in the above trailer, as the picture veers into the darker, unexplored corners of the war on drugs.

With little over a month until release, we’re cautiously optimistic not only for Villeneuve’s latest feature, but to see Emily Blunt flex her action muscles once again following her impressive turn in Edge of Tomorrow. Sicario will hit theaters on September 25.

In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past (Benicio Del Toro), the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.
