Aside from the main entries into the franchise, Disney is also planning several standalone Star Wars films, which are rumored to revolve around Han Solo, Yoda and Boba Fett, respectively.

The first of the bunch, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, is already in production, with Gareth Edwards at the helm. Chronicle director Josh Trank was set to helm another of the spinoffs, reportedly the Boba Fett one, but he’s since exited the project due to the fiasco on Fantastic Four. No new director has been found just yet, and now we’re hearing from EW that the film will not make its 2017 release date and instead, will open in 2020.

Apparently, the delay comes down to the fact that the story is going to require a lot of “innovative technology.” Or at least, that’s what producer Kathleen Kennedy says:

“It’s still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell,” she says. “There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is we’r e doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that. But we’re definitely still developing it… We’re trying to get to a point where we’re never rushing for anything.”

So, there you have it. Those of you waiting to see Boba Fett’s origin story on the big screen may need to wait a bit longer. Don’t worry though, as there will be plenty of Star Wars between now and then, with J.J. Abrams’ trip to a galaxy far, far away ready to kick it all off on December 18th, 2015.
