The Caped Crusader (Or Doomsday) Won’t Be Kal-El’s Biggest Threat In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Fresh off teasing the overarching masterplan for the grand DC Expanded Universe (DCEU), The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star Henry Cavill has reined his focus in to offer up new information regarding Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Due to arrive next year, Zack Snyder’s titanic showdown is hot on everyone’s lips following its mythic Comic-Con trailer. Lumping together its beloved, superpowered trifecta early on the DCEU, Dawn of Justice is bringing together some of the greatest superheroes in history under one narrative umbrella, and with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, Aquaman and Doomsday all in line to appear at some point, Cavill’s shamed deity will certainly have his hands full, but according to the man himself, there’s only one person that can ostensibly beat Supes – and no, it isn’t Affleck’s Caped Crusader.

In an interview with The Guardian, the actor noted that he believes the only thing that can truly beat Superman is Superman. Forget Kryptonite or Batman, following Man of Steel‘s city-levelling finale, Cavill’s troubled protagonist will be wresting a lot of inner demons when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice rolls around, and it’s here that the actor believes Snyder can really extract some of the character’s more compelling tenets.

“Superman is a complex dude. People think Kryptonite can beat him. No. The only thing that can really beat Superman is Superman. His own noggin messing with him. His own moral choices. When you have that to start with, the storytelling can really delve into something rich.”

And though Marvel is traditionally known for locking down actors for multi-film contracts, DC and Warner Bros. is also employing a similar tactic as it looks to branch out its more mythic cinematic universe. For Cavill, the idea of reprising his role as Supes for years to come is something he welcomes with open arms.

“It’s a wonderful role. There’s a huge potential there for complex storytelling, and I’m looking forward to exploring those avenues. Come on, it’s Superman! You can’t be pissed off at the idea of playing Superman for the rest of your life. ‘Oh sorry, I’m just the grandaddy of all superheroes. It’s such a pain.’”
