Disney may have brought Star Wars: The Force Awakens to its annual D23 expo without a new sizzle reel to showcase, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the mega-company turned up empty handed during Sunday’s presentation for all things Star Wars. Having unveiled Drew Struzan’s stylized poster, we’re now beginning to see scores of photos from the convention floor appear online, and Collider just published a bunch of stills spotlighting the armor worn by Captain Phasma.
Played by Game of Thrones‘Â Gwendoline Christie in the galactic sequel, the suit worn by the formidable baddie is as stylish as it is menacing, indicating that Christie’s character is some form of elite and decorated Stormtropper replete with her own cape. Alongside these images were some photos captured from during the presentation itself, which see Harrison Ford, J.J. Abrams and Daisy Ridley up on stage among the rest of the cast.
Without doubt, the armor set to be donned by Christie is eye-catching, indicating that the actress is set to play a relatively major part in The Force Awakens. Speaking of which, it was Entertainment Weekly that served as a bastion for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming sequel last week, serving up an array of stills and new information relating to the film’s plot and, perhaps even more enticing, the mysterious aura behind Adam Driver’s Darth Vader megafan, Kylo Ren.
Acting as one of the Knights of Ren, it’s understood that Driver’s big bad will inherit the Ren moniker – much like the Sith title – when Star Wars: The Force Awakens kicks off, and will serve as one of the biggest driving forces behind The New Order as it looks to do good on the corrupted legacy left by Vader’s fallen Empire. According to franchise stalwart and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, Kylo Ren is a rich, multi-faceted character that can bring something truly new to the table.
“I’ve written four Star Wars movies now, and there’s never been a character quite like the one that Adam plays. I think you’re going to see something that’s brand new to the saga.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives on December 18.
