With IO Interactive’s sprawling video game franchise at its disposal, it comes as no surprise that 20th Century Fox has mapped out plans for a potential sequel to Hitman: Agent 47, and according to a recent report by Screen Rant, the studio may have included a post-credits sting that teases the arrival of a new villain for Rupert Friend’s cold-blooded assassin. Be warned, though, it does contain spoilers.

First thing’s first, Friend (Homeland) has signed on for multiple movies as 47, the man-made killing machine on a mission to topple the mega-corp that created him in the first place. This indicates that ideas for a sequel are, at the very least, in the early planning stages at the studio. Of course, the trainwreck better known as Fantastic Four has taught us that nothing is set in stone, and the chances of Fox green-lighting a follow-up to Agent 47 will naturally hinge on the film’s box office performance.

Even still, the fact that the post-credits scene exists highlights that there is at least a kernel of an idea for the sequel, and it will reportedly introduce a villain from 2006’s Hitman: Blood Money. Screen Rant notes that this big bad in question is none other than Mark Parchezzi III (The Albino), who is one of the only assassin on par with that of Friend’s 47. Should this pan out, it would make for an interesting set-up, considering that it’s drawing directly from the video game lore as opposed to gunning for something original.

Hitman: Agent 47 is fast approaching its target (read: cinema date), with Aleksander Bach’s directorial debut on course for an August 21 release. Zachary Quinto, Hannah Ware, Ciarán Hinds, and Thomas Kretschmann complete the cast.

HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.
