With a strong performance in F. Gary Gray’s acclaimed Straight Outta Compton already crowding up her résumé, Alexandra Shipp is swapping gritty rap drama for superhero tentpole with X-Men: Apocalypse, and early reports indicate that her Ororo Munroe (Storm) is one of the main focal points in Bryan Singer’s upcoming trilogy capper.
Not only will she play one of the Four Horsemen recruited by Oscar Isaac’s titular, power-mongering deity – alongside Psylocke, Angel and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto – but rumors suggest that her character will question her own allegiances once the 5,000-year-old supervillain rises up and begins his biblical reign of terror.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to feature Cairo in a major way, and we’ve already seen some of the pre-CG locations being used for the film not to mention the staggering practical effects. This time around, Bryan Singer has taken to Instagram to share a set video and numerous photos, with the former even featuring the same locale used by Roland Emmerich for his upcoming LGBTQ drama, Stonewall. Admittedly, they’re not terribly revealing, though there is a fleeting shot at Storm’s apartment from the threequel.

Picking up after the events of Days of Future Past, fans of the mutant franchise are chomping at the bit to see Professor X and his young X-Men class lock horns with the titular deity. With videos such as those embedded above cramming up Singer’s Instagram feed, it’s clear that the director is aiming to tease fans with what’s to come without ruining any surprises, though we expect that the full trailer can’t be too far of following its appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last month.
