Anne Hathaway is attached to produce and star in sci-fi action comedy The Shower, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lifted from Hollywood’s infamous blacklist, the big-screen alien invasion flick will be based on Jac Schaeffer’s screenplay, who is also on board to produce the project opposite Hathaway. Adam Shulman and Andrew Lauren join the producing ranks on the film, too.

Tonally speaking, The Shower is said to resemble the likes of Seth Rogen’s This is the End and Bridesmaids for its female-centric nature. Whether this will pave the way for a female ensemble remains to be seen, though now that Hathaway has thrown support behind the project, don’t be too surprised if the pieces start falling into place before long.

In a statement today, the actress expressed her excitement about partnering with Schaeffer, stating that “Jac has written an awesome sci-fi comedy centered around funny, fully dimensional female characters. I feel so lucky to be a part of the team that will bring her enormously talented and fresh voice to the big screen.”

Echoing the sentiment, Schaeffer added: “Anne is the perfect actor to anchor a story that is ultimately about female friendship, with a lot of ass-kicking along the way.” With the director’s chair yet to be filled, The Shower still has a ways to go before entering production in earnest, though early signs are certainly promising.

Opening during your average baby shower, Schaeffer cooks up a concept where a most unusual meteor shower blankets a town, raining down a strange spell that transforms men into bloodthirsty aliens. It’s then up to Hathaway and Co. to prevent the invasion and ultimately save the world. Let’s hope The Shower really is more in line with This is the End rather than Akiva Schaffer’s 2012 alien flop, The Watch.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of Anne Hathaway’s The Shower as it develops.
