After hearing of the female lead shortlist for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, we’re now getting word of another one, and this time, it’s for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One.

According to The Wrap, five young actresses are in line for the role of Art3mis, a “gunter who is hunting for the keys that will let the one who solves the riddle to own the OASIS, a highly valuable, online virtual reality space.” In the running for the part are Olivia Cooke (who’s also being eyed for Star Wars), Lola Kirke and Elle Fanning. As for the other two individuals, their names are being kept under wraps.

All three actresses that we have here are incredibly talented, and Spielberg can’t really go wrong with any of them. One thing to consider though is that since the character will be a love interest for the main protagonist, Wade Watts, it’s likely that whichever actress has the best chemistry with the lead male actor will be the one who’s chosen. And at the moment, we have no word on who the director wants for the part of Watts. Jurassic World‘s Nick Robinson has been rumored in the past, but there’s nothing official on that front just yet.

Ready Player One hits theatres on December 15th, 2017. When we hear more in regards to the casting, we’ll be sure to let you know. For now, however, head to the comments section and sound off with your thoughts on who should take the female lead.
