Emma Thompson Really Doesn’t Want Another Spider-Man Movie

We've been hearing the same old "superhero fatigue" comments for years, and Hollywood keeps on churning 'em out, and they keep on making stacks of cash. But, some people in the film industry still don't believe this glut of comic book based blockbusters can continue on much longer before general audiences become sick of them - and it seems Emma Thompson is already there.

We’ve been hearing the same old “superhero fatigue” comments for years, and Hollywood keeps on churning ’em out, and they keep on making stacks of cash. But, some people in the film industry still don’t believe this glut of comic book based blockbusters can continue on much longer before general audiences become sick of them – and it seems Emma Thompson is already there.

In an interview with Vulture, the British actress was asked for her take on the current superhero boom, and though she admits to enjoying them on some level, it sounds as if she’s tired of the formula – particularly as it pertains to our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

“I loved the original Superman with Chris Reeve because there was a real tongue-in-cheek-ness to it, [but] after a while, you do get a tiny bit cynical about it. The fact that I know they’re going to win out in the end has now slightly interfered with my continuing to go to those movies. If I see yet another Spider-Man, I’m going to have to actually hang myself. I can’t do it anymore! They’re all marvelous, but how many times can you make this franchise, for crying out loud?”

Isn’t that the million dollar question? The most obvious answer being, of course, as long as they keep making money. Thompson goes on to say she is looking forward to Wonder Woman, but based on her comments, she should probably be kept away from rope when Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot hits in 2017.
