Hoyte Van Hoytema Won’t Shoot Wonder Woman Standalone Film After All

Let The Right One In and Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema won’t shoot Wonder Woman for Warner Bros., despite reports to the contrary.

That’s according to the man himself, who spook to The Playlist recently and confirmed that “I have nothing to do with that movie.” A shame, really, considering van Hoytema’s flair behind the camera – a talent that would have no doubt been a major coup for Patty Jenkins’ standalone feature. Currently, Wonder Woman is still on course to begin filming in London this fall, assembling Gal Gadot as the title heroine and Chris Pine as love interest Trevor, respectively.

What this means is that, despite Hoyte van Hoytema not featuring in the production, Warner Bros. will waste no time in filling the cinematographer place, especially when you consider that Jenkins’ is reportedly scouting for locations in the English capital for when the cameras start rolling. On the other end of the lens, we can also expect to hear more word on casting for the live-action feature, as it begins to gain momentum for its tentpole release in June, 2017.

At this stage, all we know is that Gal Gadot will portray Diana Prince in the standalone film following her debut in next year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Director of that superhero blockbuster Zack Snyder indicated last year that Batman and the Amazonian Warrior have crossed paths before – hence the Dark Knight Rises-esque masquerade ball snap – which could prove to be an intriguing subplot as the DC Expanded Universe begins to fall into place.

Production on Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman film is set to begin this fall in London ahead of a theatrical release on June 23, 2017.
