Such is the complex nature of open-world games that, somewhere along the line, players will encounter a technical hitch in some shape or form. It’s really a question of when, rather than if. Kojima Productions’ Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is no different, with publisher Konami today taking to its official blog to warn early adopters that its unearthed a save-corrupting bug.

It involves Quiet, one of your Buddy companions that you’re able to take out on missions with you across the sprawling Afghanistan terrain. However, take the controversial character along for the ride on Mission 29 or Mission 42 of the main story campaign and you risk corrupting your file. Here’s the official lowdown per Konami.

In “METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN” which was released on September 1st 2015, there is a possibility that save data may get corrupted and becomes unusable if having Quiet as a buddy while playing “Mission 29” or “Mission 42”. This situation can be avoided by not using Quiet as a buddy while playing either “Mission 29” or “Mission 42”.

We deeply apologize, and appreciate your patience for further announcements regarding this issue.

This issue is known to be present for Xbox360, XboxOne, PlayStation®3, PlayStation®4 and Steam®.

From what we understand, the publisher is working on a fix for the bug in question, with plans to release a patch for The Phantom Pain in the coming weeks. For now, it’s better treat the aforementioned story missions with heightened caution – or, better still, take D-Dog or D-Horse for the excursion.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is available now across console platforms and PC.
