As the casting announcements for Marvel and Netflix’s Luke Cage continue, the latest addition is an actor that most of you should recognize from his various and varied roles in film and TV over the years: Frank Whaley.

According to Deadline, Whaley – most recently seen as child-napping bad guy on Fox’s Gotham – has signed on to play a “hard nosed detective” named Rafael Scarfe. In the Marvel comics, Scarfe is a lieutenant and former partner of Misty Knight’s, who has also served as an ally to Cage and Iron Fist. The character actually became a villain in Shadowland, so though he’ll likely start out on the side of Cage and co., the potential is there for a bit of skulduggery as the series progresses.

Luke Cage will star Mike Colter as the titular hero, as well as Simone Missik as Misty Knight, Alfre Woodard as Black Mariah, Theo Rossi as Shades , Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and Mahershala Ali As Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes. There’s currently no director or premiere date set, but Cheo Hodari Coker (Southland, Ray Donovan) will serve as showrunner.
